Split Nine Patch

So I finally got around to making a quilt for my mom. I've been wanting to do so for a few years now but I had to search long and hard for the pattern that would be just right. I made a decision shortly before November to use a pattern called Split nine patch. a couple of days later I went to the fabric store and picked out 17 different cream colored prints and 10 different green colored prints. Added to that was one brown print to define the borders. All of this fabric choosing was limited to 15 minutes as I had another commitment right after.

I began by making about 400 of these triangle pieces sewn together and then I had to iron them all open to even have a half of a chance of the corners lining up in most places.

Then I made these blocks ending up with about 200 or so. I had to pick out so many different fabrics in the same family of colors so that each block didn't look identical.

I was able to get it all put together sometime around Thanksgiving time (which was when i had originally planned to give it to her) and then I put it on the frames, and had to quickly quilt it in one week so that I could take it with me when I went to my grandmothers funeral a week or so before Christmas. I gave it to her there at the church as I was headed for the airport and back to my family. It was a fun quilt to make and even though there was a lot of fabrics involved it wasn't too bad. Had I not been so pressed for time I would have taken a little more effort to make sure that no two alike fabrics where touching but I gave up on that after getting the first row of squares sewn together.

I plan to get a full sized picture the next time I go home when there is enough room to lay it out on her bed.

Jacob's Ladder

I made this quilt for my oldest boy when he got his big boy bed a couple of years ago. This one was also made with donated fabric from my mothers sewing room. I would have loved to quilt it but my husband talked me into tying it because ties are so much fun to play with.

I love how bright these colors are!

That's our Baby, #3

I found this 'That's our Baby' panel at a local quilt store. I'll have to go back and see if they have anymore, I think that they are so fun and a little vintage so it reminds parents of their favorite blankies. I was making this to sell it but now my husband wants to keep it.

That's our Baby, #2

I really like these quilt panels for babies. This is another one that my mom gave to me long ago. I had this one finished for a while before I even got married so it was fun to use it when my children where born.

Here is a close up of the empty space I needed to fill, mom had the idea to copy a design that is in the quilt and then just draw it on with ink that comes off when it gets wet.

Cross Stitch Baby Blanket

This Quilt top was made by a friend of my mom's, she gave it to my mom and then my mom gave it to me when my first child was born. Nancy cross stitched the pattern onto this fabric and then I put a back on it and quilted it. It is so soft and my youngest loves to hold it and sleep with it.

Printed Pattern Quilt

This is a crib size quilt that my mom had in her cupboard in her sewing room from long ago. when I was in college she gave it to me to quilt. It took some time as I quilted every single line on the quilt but it was a lot of fun. Printed quilts are easy because there are no seams to quilt through. If I need to make a quick gift I will find a panel like this one as I can usually have it done it a few days at most.

Tractor Quilt

I think that every little boy needs a tractor blanket. My boys will sit and look at this or drag it around or use it for a road for their rolling tractors. My mom had this left over from some other quilts she made and even though it is printed off grain slightly I think that it turned out well. I even made a smaller crib size one so both boys would have one but that is put away right now so I'll add pics later.

An individual square, I decided to quilt around the tractors and the emblems and then tie the rest. The kids like to play with the ties.
