Cars Quilt for my little boy

My second son has always had hand me down blankies from his older brother so I decided it was time for him to have one of his own and to give up the baby blanket that he has been using since birth.

As usual I found this piece of fabric in my mom's sewing room and she had no plans for it. So I got this and a little bit of border fabric to go with it. I already had the super soft blue at home and decided that would make it fun for him. This picture of the back of the quilt almost shows the wavy pattern that I decided to quilt it with. My oldest son called this kind of quilting "Bee Line".

Embroidered Elephant Baby Quilt

Many, many years ago my mom made this quilt top. I know that the picture quality is poor but each different color of embroidery thread is a different embroidery pattern. I know that she loved making this quilt top but just never got around to finishing it what with all of her kids and projects that always seemed to take precedence.

To finish this quilt there were some blank spaces that needed to be filled in so that when the quilt gets washed it doesn't fall apart. So I got online and printed out an eight-sided star pattern to fill in the voids.

I decided to use the green super soft fabric for the back of this one as Brenda has been trying to claim it for years and green is her favorite color. I also used a green thread to do all of the quilting which really makes the added eight-sided stars stand out more.

Second Cross stitch pattern quilt.

As I noted in an earlier post a lady in my mom's ward does the cross stitch on these baby quilts. Here is the second one that I have quilted.

On this one I used the really soft fabric that you get at Jo-Ann's on the back and chose the bright yellow since I don't know if this will be for a boy or a girl. I just wanted to get a couple of them finished for my mom to give them away when she wants.

Disney Princess Quilt

A little over a year ago my Brother and his wife asked me to make a princess quilt for their oldest girls Christmas present. I ended up making two of them so I only have pictures of the second one but they are pretty close to the same quilting pattern.

On the second quilt I used hand drawn hearts that match the pattern in the border print that I used. On the first quilt I did a diamond pattern that was a lot of fun to quilt.

Also on the second quilt I used this border pattern for the narrow yellow piece of fabric.

Rail Fence

My mom often gets fabric donated to her collection. In one of the batches of fabric we found these completed squares for a rail fence pattern quilt. we did not care for the light green fabric so we changed that out for a white on white print.

Here is a picture of the finished quilt. It ended up being the size of a queen spread, and almost as big as a king size quilt. This pattern was super easy to quilt as it was all straight lines. and even though they are not my favorite colors it is a really nice finished quilt.

Baby Animal quilt

The is such a fun little quilt, it has baby lambs, bunnies, and duckies on it. I love the primary color theme. I know they are strong colors for babies but I know how much my own kids love bright colors so babies can't be too different.

I decided to bind it with chenille as it is so soft and fun to feel or to chew on.

I gave this blankie to Eric and Monica after they had Ryker.

Split Nine Patch

So I finally got around to making a quilt for my mom. I've been wanting to do so for a few years now but I had to search long and hard for the pattern that would be just right. I made a decision shortly before November to use a pattern called Split nine patch. a couple of days later I went to the fabric store and picked out 17 different cream colored prints and 10 different green colored prints. Added to that was one brown print to define the borders. All of this fabric choosing was limited to 15 minutes as I had another commitment right after.
I began by making about 400 of these triangle pieces sewn together and then I had to iron them all open to even have a half of a chance of the corners lining up in most places.

Then I made these blocks ending up with about 200 or so. I had to pick out so many different fabrics in the same family of colors so that each block didn't look identical.

I was able to get it all put together sometime around Thanksgiving time (which was when i had originally planned to give it to her) and then I put it on the frames, and had to quickly quilt it in one week so that I could take it with me when I went to my grandmothers funeral a week or so before Christmas. I gave it to her there at the church as I was headed for the airport and back to my family. It was a fun quilt to make and even though there was a lot of fabrics involved it wasn't too bad. Had I not been so pressed for time I would have taken a little more effort to make sure that no two alike fabrics where touching but I gave up on that after getting the first row of squares sewn together.

I plan to get a full sized picture the next time I go home when there is enough room to lay it out on her bed.
